El presente continuo en inglés 

El presente continuo es muy sencillo de entender y usar. Se forma igual que en castellano y se usa prácticamente en las mismas situaciones. Vamos a verlo con ejemplos.

La teoría

El presente continuo es el tiempo verbal que usamos para describir acciones que están ocurriendo en este momento, es decir, en el momento en el que se está hablando.

• Se compone del verbo to be en el presente simple más un verbo en gerundio (terminado en –ing).
• La regla de oro es que el 99 % de las veces que lo usamos, contraemos al hablar.

Estoy mirando el reloj de pared.	I’m looking at the clock.
Te estoy mirando.	I’m looking at you.
Estoy hablando con ellos.	I’m talking to them.

Clave de pronunciación

Al pronunciar I’m pega los labios y exagera el sonido de la m como si estuvieras a punto de decir mamá: /áimmm/. Es mucho mejor exagerar el sonido que quedarse corto y decir /ain/.

Error común

No digas nunca I’m looking to thepicture ni He’s pointing to the clock.

To look y to point son dos verbos que suelen usar la preposición at. Decimos, por tanto, I’m looking at thepicture y He’s pointing at the clock
